I am a small business owner selling custom jewelry and located in the United States. I have always wanted to start a business and after failing four times, I found success in selling jewelry. I love wearing jewelry. I have always enjoyed shopping for jewelry with my sisters and friends since I was a teenager. Unfortunately, I am allergic to nickel, and if I wear any custom jewelry I develop a bad skin reaction. Within hours of wearing a necklace, bracelet, or earrings, I develop hives, itching, and rash. I stopped wearing jewelry for a long time because I could not afford 14 karat or 24 karat gold jewelry. Now I have a store, I can afford to buy a hypoallergenic necklace without breaking the bank.                                           

14K white gold has 58% gold and the remaining 42% is a mix of metals, including nickel.  24K white gold is 99.9% gold. There is minimal nickel in yellow and rose gold alloys. Diamonds contain nickel as well. So, if you ever have itching or rash after wearing jewelry, you should know you have an allergy to nickel.
